War Memorial Park venue to be expanded after successful first year

A bistro in Coventry’s War Memorial Park is being expanded after proving to be a hit in its first year of business.

More than £100,000 is being invested into The Park Bistro, which is operated by No Ordinary Hospitality Management (NOHM). The expansion will create space for 18 more covers inside and will add further outdoor seating with views across the park.

The development follows the launch of the venue in June last year when it opened alongside a new ice cream kiosk and NOHM’s second Sundae Club, all part of an overall investment of £400,000 to add more choice for visitors.

In the past 12 months, The Park Bistro has proved popular with visitors to the War Memorial Park – whether for breakfast, lunch or a daytime snack following a dog walk. It has also become a destination in its own right.

As well as adding further indoor and outdoor seating, a new coffee hatch is being installed to serve drinks and snacks during busy periods.

The Park Bistro, which serves a choice of breakfasts from 8am-11am and sandwiches, paninis, nachos, jackets and loaded fries throughout the day, will refresh its menu too to meet visitor demand.

On top of that, locally sourced products – including Baked Brownies, from The Abbey Artisan Market, which is based at The Avenue at Coombe, will be available to purchase from The Park Bistro.

Work is underway for the newly expanded venue to open on Monday, July 17, in time for the school summer holidays. It will only close for just one day during extension works but will remain open at all other times.

Ron Terry, Group Operations Director at No Ordinary Hospitality Management, said: “We are thrilled to see further investment going into The Park Bistro within the War Memorial Park.

“It has proved to be incredibly popular over the past 12 months and it makes sense to expand the venue so that more people can make the most of the great food and drink it has to offer, especially at peak times.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming new and existing customers and offering new produce from our sister outlet, The Abbey Artisan Market at Coombe Abbey; meaning there’s even more reason to pay a visit to The Park Bistro.” Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader Coventry City Council, said: “The War Memorial Park is a special venue that appeals to a wide diversity of people from all ages and backgrounds.
“The park is a really popular venue and I’m really pleased The Park Bistro is operating successfully. It adds to the mix of facilities on offer at the park.”
