Home sweet home for MedicAir

MedicAir DentAir Ltd specialises in improving indoor air quality through the design, engineering, and sale of medical grade air purifiers which remove up to 99.99 per cent of viruses, bacteria and airborne contaminants.

The business, which was established in 2020, supplies its state-of-the-art products to various sectors including the World Health Organisation, rugby and football clubs, care homes, the NHS, hospitals, schools, dentists and even oil rigs in the North Sea.

Aside from the UK, the company exports the three sizes of its air purifiers around the world including Canada, Europe, South Africa, UAE, and USA.

MedicAir is part of a wider group called Bryant Medical Ltd whose headquarters are in Surrey and employs over 50 members of staff with MedicAir Managing Director Matthew Perkins being a shareholder in both companies.

The Challenge

The success and growth of MedicAir and Bryant Medical during the pandemic meant MedicAir needed to move into their own offices as space was becoming limited at the Bryant Medical site in Surrey.

Matthew and Chief Operating Officer, Graham Thomas, decided that the Midlands would be the best location for their new home.

Last December, they contacted the Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Hub to discuss business support in the area and any potential financial help.

Graham said: “We spoke to the Growth Hub from the outset to see what support might be available and we took that into consideration when choosing our location because we had found potential new offices at Waterloo Place in Leamington but significant renovation was required.”

The Growth Hub put MedicAir in touch with Kierandeep Bal, Business Development Advisor at Coventry City Council, to discuss grant support towards funding the cost of the improvement work.

The Solution

MedicAir was awarded a grant of £4,526 from the Coventry and Warwickshire Business Support Programme which was part funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The company invested the remaining £18,000 to re-plaster and re-decorate the third and fourth floor of their new home and also re-laid the carpet and added office furniture.

Jim Vithanage, Account Manager at Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Hub, said: “We are ideally placed to help businesses already located here wanting to expand or companies planning to move into the area like MedicAir with our network of contacts.

“The business needed to relocate following its substantial growth pre-and post-Covid because they required more space and Warwickshire is an ideal location with its easy access to transport links.

“MedicAir’s offices are really smart and they have created a great work environment for their staff and the firm to thrive.”

The Result

The renovation work has been completed, and one new job has been created to add to the four-strong team and further new positions are expected as the business grows.

MedicAir plans to continue its growth and target other sectors such as the transport sector and public transport companies.

The company will continue to receive ongoing business support via Jim at Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Hub and Kierandeep at Coventry City Council.

Graham said: “The support has been first-rate from the Growth Hub and Coventry City Council particularly with the application process towards the grant.

“Through my previous roles in local government I was aware of the great work of the Growth Hub which I’ve now experienced myself.

“We are really pleased with the refurbishment, the offices and the location which is ideal for the business and our staff.

“It has been a really busy eight or nine months and we think it’s going to get even busier!”

Kieran added: “I’m really pleased that MedicAir chose Coventry and Warwickshire as a place to invest. Leamington has excellent transport links and also a vibrant business network which attracts developing and innovative businesses so is ideal for a company like MedicAir.

“Both floors have been transformed as a result of the renovation project and now offer a great working environment for existing and any new staff that MedicAir take on. I’m pleased to have supported the business with a grant and look forward to watching them grow even further.”
