Further access and cycle-way improvements to St Mary's Lands

As part of the on-going improvements to St. Mary’s Lands, Warwick District Council have appointed CLC Contractors to undertake works to the main entrance, Bread & Meat Close car park and the canter-down areas of Warwick Racecourse.

These works form part of the St Mary’s Lands masterplan, started in 2016, which has seen a host of measures to improve the accessibility to this popular sporting and recreational facility.

Early next week the contractors will begin to extend the cycle link from the Racecourse entrance towards Linen Street, giving cyclists a traffic free route to the town centre.  The works will include the replacement of parking spaces in the Bread & Meat Close car park, the provision of way-finding lighting and new signage.

The joint project which is being undertaken in partnership with Warwickshire County Council and the national cycle network charity Sustrans is due to be completed by early September.

Access to St Mary’s Lands for walkers, runners and cyclists will not be affected by these works.

Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Business & Environment, Councillor Alan Rhead commented;

“This is significant part of our plans to not only improve access to St Mary’s Lands, but also to encourage cycling in and around Warwick town centre, reducing congestion and pollution levels.”
