What does Net Zero mean for SMEs?
Organiser
SMEs could face significant business disruption and risks, but also opportunities from the net zero transition.
But what are they and what is net zero?
If you don’t know the details, you’re not alone. 96% of businesses (predominantly SMEs) only know some details, the name, or have never heard of the Government’s target to net zero by 2050 (British Chambers Study, 2020).
The same study found key barriers to businesses were lack of understanding, knowledge, information and access to finance for achieving progress to net zero. Businesses also agreed on the benefits of progressing net zero action, including competitive advantage, new business opportunities and meeting supplier and customer demands.
National, regional and local Governments have set net zero targets. Achieving a net zero UK economy by 2050 is bound by law. Therefore, business and industry will have to adapt to meet net zero targets through carbon reductions.
We know businesses (especially SMEs) are still recovering from the impacts of the pandemic, so we want to ensure your business is prepared for future changes. The need to reduce carbon to achieve the net zero target will mean changes in the way products and services are designed, manufactured and delivered. Therefore, it’s important to understand what the net zero transition means for you and your business.
Join this webinar to learn from experts, business leaders and their experiences on preparing, adapting and enhancing business resilience to the net zero transition, through:
- Improving your knowledge of why net zero is important for your businesses, its implications, potential disruptions and risks.
- Gaining insight into how SME businesses are responding to net zero by decarbonising and improving their competitiveness and reputation.
- Learning how your business can start to capitalise on the opportunities the transition brings, including future-proofing your business.
- All through expert-led presentations, case studies and business leader experience.
Current confirmed speakers include:
- Dr Mark Swift, Head of SME Programmes, Warwick Manufacturing Group
- Miranda Barker, Chair, British Chambers Climate Challenge Group
The event will be hosted by Louise Bennett OBE DL, Chief Executive of the Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.
Be part of the business community making progress towards net zero, and capitalise on the business and economic benefits the transition will bring, whilst protecting future generations.
This event has been produced for the Greater Birmingham and Coventry and Warwickshire Chambers of Commerce as part of the 2021 Sustainable Business Series: Net Zero campaign.
The Sustainable Business Series: Net Zero is the Chamber’s first campaign on environmental sustainability, which aims to share best practice, guidance and knowledge on the measures businesses can take, and commercial benefits of, progressing to net zero.
In 2021 this involves 5 free online webinars taking place from the end of September and throughout October and a Sustainable Business Summit on 3rd November. In addition, throughout the campaign, the Chambers will be publishing thought leadership podcasts, videos and blog content.
Thanks to our Headline Sponsors – Aston University, Arup, Morgan Sindall and the University of Birmingham - all webinars are free to attend. Interested parties can find out more and register to attend Sustainable Business Series: Net Zero events here, and the Sustainable Business Summit here.
