Making our Fair Green Solar Future
Organiser
The UN science-based climate emergency requires 50% cut in current carbon emissions by 2030 to contain global warming within 1.5 degrees so avert irreversible catastrophe for life on earth. Coventry, as other cities, recognises the dual challenge to urgently address local atmospheric pollution and global warming from using fossil fuels. The common solutions is replacing with clean energy and technologies with mostly being generated locally., combined with resource efficiency.
We are on the eve of the decisive challenge for the UN COP26, starting 1/11/2021, hosted by the UK Presidency in Glasgow.
Prior commitments of the top 30 world leaders whose countries currently account for 85% of carbon emissions fall far short of containing rising global warming within 1.5 degrees by 2030 including the UK. Coinciding with this is a further energy supply challenge which highlights the duel imperative to generate multiple times the current level of renewable power for electricity, heating and transport.
This public event will showcase the potential to generate from multiple sources many times more the green clean solar power today creating new jobs both in manufacture, installing and servicing.
The thee presentations highlight the latest installation of 5,000 solar panels on 41 Coventry buildings with public funding. The event will also feature the , Warwickshire located, Heart of England Community Energy solar farm with 55,000 panels. Thirdly the CCS Ltd project with Warwick University student producing extensive solar mapping of large clusters of Coventry buildings with the potential to generate multiple times the existing green power. With the next step to promote installation
