Refuse & Recycling service update

The district’s refuse & recycling collection service will continue next week without the added support of the ‘home to school’ taxi service, brought in during the COVID-19 peak.

For a number of weeks to help protect the health and safety of the public and crews, Warwick District Council, Warwickshire County Council and Suez have been operating the recycling and refuse collection service followed by a taxi to provide transport for an additional crew member and with extra vehicles on the Recycling collection service to help with social distancing for crews.

Now in accordance with changing government guidelines and following best industry practice, a joint decision has been made to return to normal operations.

Due to the high volume of recycling currently being presented, one extra vehicle will stay on the Recycling collection service using a different vehicle where all recycling is tipped in to the back; recycling collected in this way is taken to a local facility in Stratford to be sorted and recycled. Residents are advised to continue sorting their recycling as not all recycling will be collected in this way.

Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Moira-Ann Grainger commented;

“I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this successful collaboration which has allowed us to continue with all of our waste and recycling services throughout the pandemic. The health and safety of the public and our crews remains our priority and we will carefully monitor and review all of our services on a regular basis.”

The Council would like to advise local residents that, due to the increase in the amount of recycling being collected some services may be subject to delay.
