As part of our continued work to represent the interests of our region’s businesses, the Midlands Engine has organised a virtual roundtable with the Department for International Trade (DIT) for SMEs from across the region with an interest in international trade, in particular in trade with the United States of America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
A US Free Trade Agreement would enable the Midlands to benefit significantly, with one in five of all exports from the region already going to the US. For example, a deal could reduce tariffs imposed on the region’s car manufacturers, as well as its ceramics and drinks exporters. Service firms could benefit from increased market access in the UK. Removing trade barriers with the US could deliver huge gains, especially for the SMEs across the Midlands already trading with the US and opening up opportunities to others.
We want to receive insight from Midlands businesses operating in, or interested in, these key international markets through our virtual roundtable event, which will be taking place on 5th June. This event will also offer an opportunity to put questions to the Secretary of State for International Trade, Rt Hon. Liz Truss MP.
Places are limited, and will be allocated from those who have expressed an interest to ensure a fair spread of geography, sectors and business sizes, so to express an interest please complete the form below by 29 May 2020.
Can I therefore ask you to encourage businesses in your area, who you think would benefit from participating in this event, to register their interest by 29 May 2020, using the form accessed via the following link: International Trade Roundtable for SMEs - Registration of Interest
*Please note places at this event are limited and we are seeking to achieve a representation from a variety of sectors from across the Midlands, therefore we cannot guarantee that all those registering will be able to participate in this event*
