Public Events to be Held by The Coventry UK City of Culture Team

Members of the public will be given an insight into the next steps for Coventry as UK City of Culture 2021 at a series of meetings across the city.

The city landed the prestigious prize in December and the Coventry City of Culture Trust – the team behind the successful bid – is now recruiting for key posts that will help to plan and deliver the year.

Three public meetings are being held in the city to give members of the public the chance to find out more about what is going to happen in the run-up to, during and after 2021.

The first meeting is being held at the Canley Community Centre, in Prior Deram Walk, on Monday, March 26 between 5.30pm and 7pm.

That will be followed by an event at Stoke Heath Community Centre, in Burroughs Close, on Thursday, April 12 between 6pm and 7.30pm with the final meeting taking place at Central Hall, in the city centre, on Wednesday, April 18 between 6pm and 7.30pm.

The meetings will feature presentations on where the city is in terms of UK City of Culture and what will happen next. There will also be a short performance before a 40-minute question and answer session.

Laura McMillan, Director of Operations and Legacy at Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “It’s been a whirlwind few weeks since we won UK City of Culture and while 2021 feels like it is a long way off, it will come around extremely quickly.

“We hosted the team from Hull 2017 in the city recently and they advised us to pause and use this time wisely to plan and make sure everything is in place for 2021. We are heeding that advice but, equally, we totally understand that the city is poised and wants to know as much as possible about what is going to happen in the run-up to 2021 and during the year itself.

“At this stage, we will share as much information as we can at the public meetings at the end of March and beginning of April, and have left considerable time in each event for questions and answers.

“UK City of Culture 2021 doesn’t belong to us, it belongs to the whole city and it’s vitally important that people take this opportunity to come along to find out more and ask questions.”
