With Brexit likely to become a reality, domestic economic policy becomes more crucial than ever before. The government's green paper is one building block of the approach to support business. Within this strategy, regional policy will become increasingly important - the UK has the largest regional imbalances of any European country and needs to address those. The "Midlands Engine" is supposed to follow the "Northern Powerhouse" as a flagship region.
This event will address both of these important issues asking: "Industrial Strategy: Fuel for the Midlands Engine?"
Organised by the Centre for Competitive Advantage in Global Economy, in conjunction with Warwick Manufacturing Group, this event will bring together academic researchers, industrial and city government experts from across Midlands and beyond, to encourage discussion on future industrial strategy for the Midlands and foster opportunities for further collaboration. The event will feature 4-5 interventions from distinguished speakers and will be followed by the evening reception.
Speakers:
- Jonathan Haskel, Professor of Economics at Imperial College Business School, Imperial College London: Topic: Innovation Policy
- Raj Mack, Head of Digital Birmingham, Birmingham City Council Topic: Industry 4.0 and the Future of Midlands: Birmingham Digital Strategy 2016-2021
