Definitions as to what IoT actually is vary considerably, but its foundation could be considered to be connecting everyday physical ‘Things’ to the Internet. The data from Things can then be shared. Existing Things will need to be hooked up to the Internet. New Things will be required. New data clouds will proliferate. New services and business models can be formed.Nobody quite knows where it will go but elements of this are already happening. You can monitor your home, your health and your pets today. Industry is tracking goods, vehicles and communities. More examples are here: http://postscapes.com/internet-of-things-examples/
How do West Midlands Small and Medium sized businesses (SMEs) capitalise on this projected market explosion? Opportunities abound for existing companies to adapt their existing products to be ‘connected’, invent new products, or prepare to deliver services in a different way. Collaborations will be needed – no one company can do everything.
The WMG SME team will try to assist in this growth by hosting a West Midlands SME meetup on the subject. The aim is to build a community of likeminded organisations willing to collaborate and explore, and innovate with IoT products or application.
Our events are open to all and are generally informal ‘Show and Tell’, featuring short talks from those innovating within the ‘Internet of Things’. Come and meet, explore and be inspired.
The International Institute for Product and Service Innovation (IIPSI) is marked on the University of Warwick Central Campus map found here: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/about/visiting/maps/interactive/
Car Parks 15 and 8 are closest (Car Parks are FREE after 6pm. Car Parking is £1 for up to 2 hours, £2.00 for <4 hours, £4.00 for 4+ hours, CASH ONLY, before this time). Or there is a well serviced bus stop close by and bike racks attached to the building.
